Strategic Planning Team Recruitment

The Holy Spirit is up to something in, at, and through St. Patrick’s.  But what exactly is the Spirit doing, and what is God calling us to do?  How are we called to minister to Dublin, the greater Columbus area, and, indeed, the world?

Yogi Bera once said, “If you don’t know where you are going, you might not get there.”  He was referring to the need for a team to have a positive and clear vision of the future in order to know the work they needed to do now.  In the church world, we call this discernment.  We embrace the encouragement of Jeremiah 29:11, where God speaks through the prophet saying, “For surely I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord, plans for your welfare and not for harm, to give you a future with hope.”  Discerning what the Holy Spirit is up to–discerning what God has planned for us–enables us to focus our worship, ministry, and fellowship toward that positive future.

To this end, the vestry has contracted with Holy Cow Consulting, who helped with the search process, to guide us through a process of discernment of our mission and vision for the next 3 to 5 years.

The process is in three phases:
  1. Core Values and Mission Formation (August 27)
  2. Finalize Vision and Identify Strategic Targets
  3. Complete Plan with Annual Goals

The vestry and I are recruiting a team of forward thinking, faithfully prayerful, wonderfully imaginative people to serve on the strategic discernment team.

The time commitment is:

  1. Three Saturdays this fall from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. a month a part between each.
  2. Some minimal homework
  3. Oversight of the plan for the first year which usually requires a meeting every two to three months to make sure the plan is on track, adjust if needed and plan celebrations for what has been accomplished.

The team will be about 10 people in size with about half coming from the congregation at large representing a cross section of the congregation regarding ministries, age, and history with the parish.  The remainder of the team will come from the vestry.  To ensure we get a broad representation from the congregation, we are asking all interested parties to apply, and then the vestry will choose the team. Click here to fill out the application.  Application deadline is June 30th, and team members will be selected in early July.
