February 2, at 7 p.m.

As the Hebrew law required, Mary and Joseph presented their firstborn son, Jesus, in the temple when he was six weeks old. What makes this significant in our spiritual history is the reaction to Jesus’ presence by two older people who were at the temple that day—Simeon and Anna. They saw, even in this infant, the coming of God’s salvation. Simeon even sang a song, which we still sing at evening services.

“For these eyes of mine have seen the savior, whom you have prepared for all the world to see; a light to enlighten the nations.”

To celebrate the light of Christ and the presentation in the temple, the Church holds a candle-light procession and service every February 2, as we will do at 7 pm that day.
